Winter Solstis

 Here in Alaska, we tend to eat up the light. The sun doesn't go across the sky. It comes up...kind of. It raises enough to say it's up, then by around 3 it's setting on the same side of the sky it came up on, same set of mountains. So what light we are getting is that sunlight right before a sunset. It's difficult to drive in, because the sun is constantly in your face. There's a joke about being Alaskan...if you have to where sun glasses at noon. Referring to the sun that's just getting ready to set and is blaring in your eyes. It does however make the opposite side of the sky purple. On the 21st was the shortest day of the year. We are now gaining light. Before we know it, We'll have so much daylight it won't go away till 1am. That is not exaggerating either. It takes some getting used to, the lighting here in AK.
