The Study

Theron was involved in a Study today at BYU. This was to better determine how infants process information by recording their brainwave activities during a presentation of various sounds and visual images. It was fun to do this. Frances (Jake's mom) came, she had fun, I think :) We went in to the research room where an assistant explained the nature of this experiment and the set up. He basically said that during the study Theron would be seated in my lap facing a computer display. Once they have collected some basic information about me and Theron, a sensor net will be placed on Threron's head. This involved measuring his head to determine where recording sensors would be placed. Before they did this, the net was soaked in a warm water solution. When the net was in place on Theron's head, they were careful, they made sure he wasn't uncomfortable. They said that they would stop if he showed any signs of being uncomfortable, like crying, or fussing, after they put the net on. Once they had the net on he watched a little movie that lasted about 4 minutes. They said that Theron did really well while this happened, he stayed still for about 3 minutes before he got fussy. While he watched the movie, a computer recorded his brain activity while he watched different visual and auditory stimuli (big and little shapes/high and low pitched tones). After all was said and done they took off the net. His hair was so pretty :) It was fun to have Grandma there being the photographer. Theron did so well, in about 6 to 8 months we can hear how the study went. Theron will be included in a group of 12-35 3 month old's. Kind of fun to say that he was a part of. He got a Certificate and a picture to put in his scrapbook. This was the high light of our morning Today.

That's cool that Theron got to participate! You'll have to post what the results show. :)

That looked really interesting. I love the look on Theron's face when they put it on. The pictures were great. I love doing study and reasearch things. It's fun when you can involve the kids.

Wow those were cool pictures. I did a study at BYU both with Aidan and Aaron when they were babies. It was pretty cool. I never got to take pictures though.

My nephew did the same test at BYU. You little Theron is so cute. I'm amazed at how mellow he was during the whole thing.

You look great. Hard to believe you had a baby 3 months ago.

I'll give you a call soon.
